In fact, the opening of it moved ahead faster than expected with some volunteers from the congregation helping the progress. “We thought (the sanctuary) might be empty for a while.” “Things are still pretty fluid,” Skeen said. Having 40 acres available is a blessing that could allow the addition of a playground for the children that make up about a third of the congregation, he said.īut an additional parking lot needs to come first and maybe a pavilion will be added for outside events, the trio said. “People need lasting hope in something real and that’s the message of Jesus Christ.” “Our mission is to equip our people to go to the neighborhoods and share,” Littler said. Membership at Cornerstone Bible Church under Senior Pastor Luke Rosenberger has grown to about 88 families and there are usually 130 to 140 worshippers Sunday mornings, Littler said, adding he leads a high school group of about 15 youth.Ī tour of the new building, which resembles Southwestern architecture, includes the Kids’ Kingdom room where the younger children gather during regular church services.Īctive outreach is an important part of the religious philosophy of “Know Jesus, Grow into His Likeness and Go to make Him known to others,” Skeen said in the February 2021 newsletter, which includes the church’s budget and spending data. “We started by recasting the vision,” Skeen said.Ī campaign to raise funds was established and gained speed, even through the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, three years ago, the movement for a sanctuary began to rev up. “Phase One – we built the ministry center,” he said, which included administrative offices, classrooms and a large conference center used for the regular Sunday youth ministry with Josh Littler, pastor of family ministry, and some retreats. It may seem an odd place for a church - down the street from Taylor Electrical Contractors and the Buckeye Chocolate Company production facility - but the price was right at the time because wetlands exist on part of the property, Skeen said. Buying the vacant 40-acre parcel on Berkshire Industrial Parkway 15 years ago was the first part of the program, he said. Shortly after forming a congregation, they started looking for a place to “plant” a church. “Dave worked very hard to help us move over here,” he said. He credited Doug Flood from Fellowship Bible Church for helping the fledgling congregation learn to fly. “There were several families who were very important to Fellowship,” Itschner said. Several families met with him and asked if it would be appropriate for us to try to plant a church back here,” he said, adding Golz generously approved the proposal, which would take away members from the Bainbridge church.

Without a sanctuary, they began meeting in 1993 at Camp Burton and, since 2003, at Cardinal Middle School, said Elder Alan Skeen in an interview July 25, two weeks after the sanctuary’s soft opening. It has been a long journey for the growing congregation. The day of celebration includes an open invitation to the community to enjoy a service, a picnic, games, live Blue Grass gospel music and even a bouncy house for the kids. 8 will be a very special Sunday for members of the nondenominational Cornerstone Bible Church as they rejoice in the official opening of their new sanctuary in Burton Township.
